Why Resolutions Fall Apart And What Your Body Has to Do With It
Every December, we’re told to create new goals, set intentions, reset our habits, and reinvent ourselves as the calendar turns over.
“New year, new me.”
Except your body doesn’t work like that.
Your body isn’t wired for quick reinventions or sudden leaps into the unknown.
Your body is wired for safety first… everything else second.
And that simple truth is why so many resolutions collapse long before February arrives.
Not because you’re inconsistent.
Not because you’re not motivated enough.
Not because you’re “bad at follow-through.”
But because your nervous system didn’t feel safe enough to hold the change you were trying to make.
Let’s talk about why.
Your Nervous System Chooses Safety, Not Logic
We love to think we can plan our way into a new life.
We write S.M.A.R.T. goals, colour-code our planners, make vision boards, build elaborate routines.
But your nervous system doesn’t choose based on your rational plans.
It chooses based on what feels familiar.
Familiar = predictable.
Predictable = safe.
Safe = survivable.
Even if the familiar thing isn’t good for you.
So when you try to step into something new… a bigger dream, a deeper intention, a healthier rhythm, a more expansive version of yourself… your body runs a quiet background check:
“Have we lived this before?
Is this safe?
Do we have the capacity for this?”
And if the answer is no?
Your body will gently (or not so gently) pull you back into old patterns.
Not to sabotage you but to protect you.
The Myth of “Just Try Harder”
We’ve been sold the idea that discipline, willpower, and consistency are the magic ingredients for change.
But when your system is still holding the tension, stress, and emotional residue of the year before?
Trying harder only creates more resistance.
You can:
✨ Make the vision boards
✨ Set the resolutions
✨ Write the entire roadmap
…but if your body is still bracing for last year,
it cannot move toward the life you’re imagining.
Not because you’re incapable because your system doesn’t have the capacity yet.
This is the science of survival.
Safety → Then Clarity → Then Creation
This is the order your body understands.
Safety first:
Your system needs grounding, resourcing, regulation. The internal sense that it’s okay to move forward.
Clarity second:
Only once you feel safe does your vision sharpen. Your desire gets louder. Your intuition comes online.
Creation third:
Action flows naturally when the body believes the path is safe. Momentum isn’t forced, it’s allowed.
This is why traditional goal-setting falls flat. It skips the first two steps.
Stepping Into 2026 With a Regulated Body
2026 isn’t just another year, it’s a Universal 1 Year, the beginning of a new 9-year cycle. A year of initiation, creation, bravery, and forward motion.
But you cannot step into a cycle of expansion while your body is still gripping the energy of the cycle you’re leaving.
This is the doorway where most people get stuck.
This is the threshold where nervous systems freeze.
This is the moment where old patterns get louder.
And this is exactly why I created Lifting the Veil.
Lifting the Veil: A Three-Part Embodied Journey Into 2026
Lifting the Veil is a workshop series designed to help you shift out of survival mode and step into the next year with a regulated, grounded, embodied foundation.
Through visualization, somatic practices, nervous system education, resourcing, and reflection, we will:
Release the last threads of 2025 your body is still holding
Close the energetic cycle of the Universal 9 Year
Root your guiding intention for 2026
Anchor it across the 5 key dimensions of your life
Build the internal safety your body needs to support your next chapter
Create a vision that lives in your body, not just your mind
This is not mindset work.
This is embodied becoming.
Workshop Dates: December 16 | January 6 | January 20
A step into the next 12 months that is grounded, resourced, and doable because your nervous system is on board.
